Category: the Rant Board
Hi all,
Well as I've never visited zanga.com, Idon't know much about this.
A friend of mine told me about an antiblind blogring on there.
Are any of yawl members of zanga?
And, well... What do you all think about these antiblind idiots?
I think they should be kicked off the site.
Furthermore... this goes into play with my next toppic which Ill be posting later...
Anyway,... Hope we can all um work together to get these assholes off the site!
Peace,
Karrie
because you don't aggree what some sais you can not have them thrown off the site. unless they are in violation of a rule that the site has inplace you can't get them thrown off the site. besides if the shew was on the other foot Would you like to be thrown a website for some 1 not aggreeing with you?
I am a Xanga member (CrE8ed2WoRsHiP), but I am not a member of that retarded blogring. Don't let 'em get to you; they're a buncha idiots. I would know - I got picked on really bad in elementary, and now that I look back on it, I realize they were a buncha losers with no life.
Well, being totally blind myself, I understand how gummy bear feels. I'm not n zanga, and now, after reading the first post above, I'm thankful I'm not. I wonder how they would like it if someone, one of us created an anti sighted blog ring?
wonderwoman
Well, I'm nearly totally blind, and I don't givva crap. Maybe we should look at this in a positive way, just to piss the anti-blindies off. They're looking for this sort of reaction; so maybe we should surprise them. I don't like being blind and wish I wasn't, but I can be proud if someone picks on me. Know why? 'Cause they are losers! Lhlhlhlhloo'oo'oo'oo'ooz'z'z'z'zerhrhrhrhrz'z'z'z'z!
yup agreed. Don't make it a big deal, they have their own site to hang out and we have our own. Remember there's a LJ community for the zone. And theres many blindness related communities on LJ for you to join. Ya just gotta search for them.
Im with Wonderwoman on this one... lol Im not a member either... lol but yeah
but there are those blind individuals who choose to bash sighted people, as well. On numerous occurances, I've seen and heard blind people who think sighted people should "fuck off and die ..." Isn't that sort of the same sentiments echoed by these anti-blind people, only in reverse? It's life, deal with it.
Well I don't bash sighted people. most of us don't have much in common with sighted people, but that's not their fault or ours. I still agree with gummybear on this one, and as for the zone being our blind sight, it's not, as j-squared says, strictly for the blind, there are sighted people on here, though I'm so use to this being mostly blind, that I sometimes forget that. But anyway, I think for either side to bash the other is really awful. I've talked to some sighted people on the paltalk program, and some I got along with, and some I didn't, and although I understand totally where gummybear is coming from, if you banned everyone for being jerks, then that whole myspace.com site would have to go down.
wonderwoman
Look guys I don't wanna be rude here. But do these blind bashers really care of what we think of them? No I don't. In fact if we give them their space, they'll give us ours. I don't think you want them coming on here and runing our wonderful community now do we? My suggestion: Don't visit the site, don't bother them, and move on from it.
well Jessica, likewise, I don't want to be rude either, but Gummybear is entitled to speak her feelings, and besides, if they aren't on here, they don't know what we're talking about.
wonderwoman
I'm morbidly curious about this anti-blind group, although I think I would not give them the satisfaction of reacting, as I bet that's what they want. Same as a racist or anti-Jew group. If I am to believe in freedom of speech, I have to not give into the temptation of wishing certain points of view were not heard just because I didn't like them. Life is not sanitized for anyone's protection, and wishing and hoping and Congress won't make it so. Nobody is forcing you to read or participate in anything on the net, so go to places you like and avoid those you don't.
well Labyrinth, all well and good, I haven't been back to myspace.com since my experience there, but if those anti-blinders aren't on this site, they don't know anyone's reacting do they? I mean, this is the rant board, and it implies that the board is there to post whatever bothers them, and I sympathize with gummybears point of view. She's just as entitled to express her point of view as I am to sympathize with it.
wonderwoman
I will go and check this out before making my judgement. I wonder though, how many blind people on the zone would be willing to explore the reasons as to why these people and other sighted people who dislike blind people don't like blind people? If you would, go ahead, if you wouldn't, then you deserve all the criticism you get, because it's ignorence that causes hostility, and if you're not willing to understand them you shouldn't expect them to be willing to understand you!
I agree, wonderwoman, 100%, that Karrie has the right to express how she feels; I agree: they're a buncha jerks. But I'm used to it because I went to elementary school with that type of people. Some of you may not be, and you're lucky...
You're as entitled to sympathize as some of us are entitled to ignore it and deal. People's opinions and views are part of what makes the world go round. Blah.
Wonderwoman and others, I was commenting in general to the topic and was not addressing who did or did not ahve a right to their opinion. Besides, I do not have the power or authority to take anyone's rights away unless of course all of you grant me such power. So unless you let me take your rights away, I never will.
Wangel, are you suggesting we own up to our flaws and face the monsters in our own mirrors? Yeah right! Who does that kind of thing! That's for weirdos and freaks! We'd rather act like normal human beings and judge people based on as little info as possible. Let somebody else take the high moral ground and be all noble and stuff! *evil grin*
the thing is, you cant let stuff like this get you down. there will always be people who do stuff you dont agree with, or dont like, but you just have to avoid it if you dont like it, bottom line. if we always went around telling people to stop this or that just cuz we didnt like it, think of how miserable everyone would be. i am a member of xanga, but i just dont pay attention to stuff i dont like. all they want, is attention, and you're giving it to them, by making a fuss about something they've created.
Instead of whining and complaining, why not join their blogring?
Join the blogring, and run them out. Create all these "blind" xangas, and subscribe to all the anti-blind members xangas. Leave comments on all their xanga sites telling about being blind. Have some fun.
Or, you can simply complain.
Whatever, it's your choice.
It would still be funny If you'd do what I mentioned above, though.

i'm the friend who told carrie about this anti blind xanga thing, i didn't mean to get people bent out of shape, i don't even care if this guy happened to flat out say that he hates me, the only reason it infuriated me is because he says "blind people have no practicle use for xanga." basically, my thing is if you're gonna talk mess, at least be informed...clearly, he knows nothing about the evolution of the blind.
that is all.
So did this guy just make the one comment about that particular site, or are we talking about some kind of huge anti-blind group that just totally focusses on how bad and awful blind people are. From the original post, I got the impression there was this whole group of people who were just out to get the blind for whatever reasons. I should really get more info so I can know where on the site to go and read for myself. Can you giv e me a name to search for or some kind of link I can put in my browser to go directly there? I still don't think I'd join, but I want to see what this person or group's problem is.
"I should really get more info so I can know where on the site to go and read for myself."
Just go to xanga.com, "blogrings," then type "Anti blind," or something with "blind" in it, and you should soon find it.
Now, If you really want details, I'll tell you what I found:
-The group contains eight members.
-They all seem to be related, or close friends. From one of the members sites, I found that another member of the group was her brother (An another, a cousin.)
-This might mean that a blind person, or group of people bothered these peple in the past, since they are (What seems to be,) close.
-They all live in Georgia...
-Looks like they're hardcore republicans, and they all love sports, of any kind.
-Seem to be obsessed with looks, and how hot someone is.
It took me ten easy minutes to find this out.
Not that hard, really.
Brice
There will always be someone who is going to be discriminating tords the disabled community. You can't stop them. So avoid it, leave it be and maybe they'll leave you alone in return.
This is very true. I've come to understand that there are just people who can't put up with very obvious differences in people. I doubt anyone would dare admit this, but such people probably wish for a world where everyone is pretty much identical to themselves, because anyone or anything that is different from what they like is some kind of gut-wrenching offence to them. I've got a very tiny violin they can listen to for all I care. LOL!
I like monkeys. they swing it trees!
What I was saying, is that without an understanding of why people dislike you or blind people, you'll never be able to change their opinions to ones which you find more satisfactory. I don't know exactly who these people are on Zanga or what they're complaining about, I don't know where on the site to go to find out. However, why some sighted people can't stand blind people is understandable to me. I've met blind people who jump around waving their hands around, making a racket, acting like complete freaks from some clinic for sicos or something. I don't blame people for disliking them. There are also the blind ones who are obsessed with their disability, very passionate about it, very into the "Blind community" attitude. They're not going to make many friends in the sighted world. I still haven't come across a comunity for people with grey hair. Some blind people are so into technology and gadgets and games especially designed for them, Sighted people would feel excluded in some way. No wonder therefore they wouldn't be liked. If you want to be liked, then you should be as intigrated with sighted people as you possibly can be. You should understand the reasons behind their views and perceptions. If you can't do those things, if your not into the things that sighted people are into, then you can't expect to be liked by them, it's as simple as that. Oh and as for the "We should all be accepted" attitude, well that's only attractive to do gooders, and noone really gives too much of a shit about them!`
true, we live in a sighted world, but it shouldn't be an ignorant one.
Well, I've always gone to school with sighted people and have never been picked on because of my blindness. From my experience, people, whether blind or sighted, are a little afraid of things that they don't know much about. So if you are a little "different" I believe that it's up to you to educate them as best you can. Sighties aren't all bad, nor are blindies. So instead of acting like such a bitch about it, (no offense to all) why not stand up and educate them!!! No one likes people who have attitude problems and if they've offended you in any way, it is always best to hold your temper and let it slide!!! I have sighted friends who have met other blind people that just gave them big attitudes because of something they said to the blindy which uninttentionally offended them. If it wasn't for the fact that I was the first totally blind person they had met and were friends with, I am sure that their views on blind/vissionally impaired people would have gone down immensely!!! I hope you take this advice to heart and the best of luck to you all!!!
*sexy*
But when you're educating people, you have to pick your battles so to speak. Some will be interested and want to learn, and others will just be stubborn and hold onto their illusions. Don't let it get you down.
I agree with Sexygurl. Education isn't about trying to teach them. Basically, you educate them about been blind just by been yourself. People who behave like me and Sexygurl are the type of people sighted people can learn from. We're not the type who'd go shoving our blindness down their throat or get offended because they treated us in certain ways. Understanding is the key! They'd see us been like them, only difference is that we'd use a cane to walk around with and in some cases, we'd different methods of working to them. From this they'd learn that the only difference between us is our level of sight. Some Visually impaired people can't even fit in though because of their completely different interests and their passion for things relating to their disability. They're the type who won't have friends in most cases, and really, if you're blind and weird with it, you've only got yourself to blame for your lack of friends. Sighted people from my experience are way better than blind ones and if I had to choose in general which type of people I'd rather hang round with, I'd choose sighted people over blind people any time.
Just wanted to say ... thansk for that liam. Rofl.
I was never really one to be overly obsessed when it came to the "blind community". I still don't agree with the ways that some blind people lead their lives. I do not promote negativity, and I definitely like to think I'm open minded. Over a period of five years, I can honestly say that I thought I had some of the best blind and visually impaired friends. But now, it turns out that one is a compulsively liar, one can't decide whether she wants to be visually impaired or not, one lied to me about her past when I trusted her completely, one tried to come inbetween my best friend and me, one thought I was trying to come between him and his girl friend even though my other friends had evidence that the girl was cheating on him... Need I say more? I used to think that the drama VI's got themselves into was less petty, but boy was I wrong. As for xanga, my name is UNeverReallyNo. If you wanna read two years worth of entries, go to it. I use my lj now.
The blind person who can't decide whether they want to be visually impaired or not ought to be told that they probably don't really have a choice so there's no point trying to decide! From what I can see, Xanga.com is a weblog community. Where there are blog communities you'll find people who have all sorts of views which some may agree with, some may disagree with. This is the same on blogger.com and blog.com and spaces.msn.com and blogit.com. For example. I was reading on blogit.com a blog of someone who detests Christianity and all the posts are full of hatred of the religion. I read though on blorgger.com, a blog from someone who wishes to promote the understanding of Islam and was promoting men hitting women during disagreements! There are plenty of anty George W. Bush blogs about too, which he'd like to be banned. Anyone heard of the freedom blog awards. People who have been put into prison for writing are celebrated in these awards. The regimes of the countries wouldn't like that. So basically what I'm saying is that the thing on Xanga.com maybe offensive but unless the site says that all offensive content isn't tollerated, it shouldn't be removed because that would be hypocritical
I have to create an account and join the ring, yes I have to much free time.
Ok, I just looked at the anti blog ring, and skimmed the entries of all it's members. the only refference made to blind people was in the blog description, none of the members even bothered to menchon blind people. So your all getting worked up about something that isn't important, and that insults blind people in one line of text, way to go not doing research before coming on the sight and complaining about it.
Blindguy could you post the address of this anti-blind thing I can't find it on xanga.com.
hmm I just had a thought. considering as there are no actual anti blind words in this blog - only the topic, maybe the title "anti blind" actually relates to the types of blinds one would hang at windows ... *grins*
I think the text associated with the blogring name pisssed people off more than the blog itself:
Blog For The Blind
This blogring is a sick joke in that blind people have no practical purpose in using xanga, for they cannot see. Therefore, this blogring is devoted to
people with a dry sense of humor and an intense hatred for the blind. Blind people think they're so cool.

Hey, just freakin forget about it, Okay? Screw them; they're worth none of your time. At least, not the type of time you people are giving them.
The funny thing is, when I go to zanga.com, I get this site that is wanting to sell me tickets and has something to do with Rolling Stone Magazine.
Labyrinth, be sure you spell xanga with an x. I thought it was zanga with a z, and when I typed that in, I got a page concerning a casino, so remember, it's
www.xanga.com
Xanga with an x instead of a z.
wonderwoman
I'm a member of xanga. But I am not a member of that blod ring.
Because no one seems to have actually posted a link so everyone can take a look at it,
http://www.xanga.com/groups/group.aspx?id=63638
I had much fun mocking this in my own Xanga. Makes me wonder if it's an uneducated hatrid or a valid one.
Still. It's fun to mock.
First of all, people do not have to be a member of the site to read these board posts, and if they do a search on anti-blind this should come up as a result. Or at least the last time I heard. Secondly, what they're doing is only as bad as the discussion I spotted concerning over weight people a few months back, and the only difference is that it is aimed at us for once. So, let them think what they want. Who knows, they be missing out on a few good friends that way, but either way it's their loss. Next, I agree, there are some blind people I've met that make me ashamed to be considered a "blindy". I am not saying all blind people are this way, but there are a few bad people in every set, and this anti-sightie thing is just as disgraceful. There are good people there too, and if you don't want something done to you don't do it to others. What goes around comes around.
